Instructions for authors

Before submitting a manuscript to Nova Biotechnologica et Chimica, please read these Instructions carefully.

Nova Biotechnologica et Chimica publishes original Research articles and Reviews.

Research articles – should report novel information, beyond simply representing a confirmation of previously published work. Data resulting from monitorings should point on some clear conclusion, extending the previously reported knowledge. First records, reports & observations without a serious scientific proof are not welcome. Authors must indicate (preferably in the Experimental section) the reproducibility or statistical significance of the results, especially where error bars are not indicated for data (e.g. images, blots).

ReviewsOnly invited reviews will be considered for publication. Authors wishing to publish a review article should contact the Editor-in-Chief or the Exeutive Editor (bc-journal.fpv@ucm.sk).  In a cover letter, they should present the Abstract and indicate the importance of the review to the scientific community.

The abstract of up to 250 words should be clear, straightforward and easy to understand even for scientists in more distant research fields. It should also conclude on how the work advanced the state of the art in the field. Avoid using undefined abbreviations or unspecified references.

Keywords

Please provide 4 to 6 keywords in alphabetic order. Avoid use of words already appearing in the title of the paper.

Text Formatting

Manuscripts should be submitted in Word (docx or doc format), written in Times New Roman font size 12, including tables and figures, graphs etc. Main headings (Introduction, Experimental, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements and References) should be displayed by bold, font size 14. Sub-headings should be of no more than three levels. Please, use the equation editor or MathType for equations. Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter. The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text, alphabetized by the last names of the first author of each work. Please, use the standard abbreviation of a journal’s name according to the ISSN List of Title Word Abbreviation (if you are unsure, please use the full journal title). Examples:

Each figure should have a concise caption describing accurately what the figure depicts. Point on all elements found in the figure and use boxes, circles, etc., as coordinate points in graphs.

Tables

Tables should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order. The table caption (title) should explain all the components of the table. Footnotes should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data), and given beneath the table.

Ethical statement: Conflict of Interest statement

The corresponding author with consents of all authors should include in manuscript a summary statement in a separate section before the reference list, that reflects the potential conflict of interest disclosure form(s).

Example:

Funding: This research/study was funded by Agency X (grant number X).

Conflict of Interest: Author A was supported by research grant from Company/Agency A. Author B is a member of committee Z.

If no conflict exists, the authors should state:

Conflict of Interest: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.

Research Articles
